You asked for something we can't give you. The web site understands what you want, but isn't allowed to give it to you. That's because we have security in place that prevents this particular request from going through.
Don't worry - it's not a bad thing. It just means you can't access this page, so we'd suggest that you go back to the HOME page and try looking for the correct page from there, or use the handy search tool to find what you're looking for.
403; or, "Access Forbidden"
four-oh-three (fôr-o-thrê)
n.
- The natural number following 402 and preceding 404.
- The addition of the natural numbers 400 (four hundred) and 3 (three).
- The World Wide Web numerical representation of "access forbidden", "sorry, I can't do that", or "4 out of 5 security experts recommend that we don't provide direct access to this page until we get around to implementing looser security procedures which will likely happen sometime in the fall of 2305."
Description:
At some point in time, some computer geek assigned numbers to various error messages, because we like keeping a record of mistakes so that we can point the blame at someone else when it comes up, and know exactly what they did wrong. 403 was picked to represent the "access forbidden" error.
Literal Meaning:
You asked for a page that is otherwise a valid request, but for security reasons that we won't bore you with, the page that would otherwise appear can't appear. This usually happens for one of three reasons:
- We don't actually have a page that matches that, so the server is trying a default page, and the default page has restricted access.
- You're trying to view a directory listing on a folder, which we can't let you do. You wouldn't want to see it anyway, because it won't make sense. There's no pretty pictures.
- You came here from somewhere else, like Google, and they haven't checked out our site in a while, so they don't know where stuff is now. Eventually the Google Geeks will update their site, and you won't see this page. Unless of course, see #2.
